Resources
The artworks reproduced in Chicano Art for Our Millennium: Collected Works
from the Arizona State University Community and the accompanying text are
invaluable resources for educators seeking to introduce Chicana/o art and culture
to students in schools and universities, to museum visitors, and to adults who
may be unfamiliar with the richness of Chicana/o art. The educators’ section
of the book provides guidance to assist in planning learning experiences for
students. Guidance includes suggestions to help students find meaningful connections
to Chicana/o artworks whether their cultural roots are Chicana/o or other. Additional
suggestions include projects that ask students to apply what they learn from
their study of Chicana/o art to art from other cultures and also to their own
art making. Potential interdisciplinary connections accompany each of six themes.
The principal audiences for the book’s educator resource are K-12 teachers,
university faculty, and art museum educators. K-12 art teachers can use themes
to introduce their students to Chicana/o art, made within an important culture
in the United States. At the same time, they can use themes and key questions
as foundations to help their students explore art from other cultures or as
a basis for art making.
Educators who try lessons are invited to send us slides or digital images of
student artwork or copies of student reports to be considered as possible additions
to this Web site and to later versions of the lessons.
Digital images, reports, and other materials may be sent via email to: hrcartprojects@asu.edu
