As part of a negotiated agreement with provisional president Adolfo de la Huerta, General Francisco Villa and 651 of his men including several generals and other officers surrender to the Mexican government. Villa retires to private life on the 25,000-acre Hacienda de Canutillo, Durango, just across the border from Parral, Chihuahua, purchased for him by the Mexican government. The surrender package includes a pension and the right to keep a 50-man security escort drawn from his dorados.

Álvaro Obregón takes office as president and serves from 1920 to 1924. This is the traditional closing date of the Mexican Revolution of 1910, although the nation is still not completely pacified.
