Cuban
born artist Julio Eloy Mesa began his career at the Cuban Institute of the Arts
and Cinematography. During the 1970's, while the Cuban Revolution was at its
peak, a new type of communicator known as the graphic artist emerged. "Poster
art," and its use of color, collages, photographs of high contrast, text,
phrases, and urgent slogans quickly made it an indispensable medium. Mesa helped
make the "film poster" a method for communication, an innovation and
far different from the established publicity styles. Mesa's work has been exhibited
internationally, and his posters are used as examples for art students in various
universities throughout Latin America. |
