Carlos Navarrete is a local Phoenix artist and painter. He was raised in a small community called Lagunillas, Pinotepa Nacional, in a Costa Chica (small coast) off Oaxaca, México by his Zapotec father and his African-Mexican mother.
In 2002/2003, he began to paint with oil and more recently with acrylic. Mr. Navarrete has lived in Phoenix, Arizona for seven years. His inspiration stems from his Afro-Mestizo cultural upbringing, a synthesis of Indigenous and African traditions.
