My imagery has always, and will always, come from my cultural experiences as a Mexicana. Those experiences have informed every aspect of my life and bring to mind the images that are the most true for me. My studio-size work has always been pastel on paper. Pastel is the perfect media for me because I love color and prefer the intimate contact of hand to paper. Colors become more intense and the velvet texture of the pastel pigments give works on paper an indefinable special quality. A critic once called my work "a blend of Rivera and Rousseau." If that is true, I am humbled by the comparison.
