We would like to invite you to attend the opening reception of "Inside
the Silhouette," an exhibition of new paintings by Allison Hill. Allison is a graduate of DePaul University where she studied printmaking, drawing and painting. Since she finished school in 2000, Allison has worked as the director of Havana Gallery, a gallery that brings Cuban fine art to Chicago.

In her exhibition "Inside the Silhouette," which will be her first solo show in Chicago, Allison will present around 20 new paintings in oil on canvas that continue her Surrealist imagery; creating tensions between opposites like fantasy and reality, sane and crazy, pleasant and unpleasant. With her themes about dreams and desires, Allison Hill
tells about the changes in her life. The images in her work are narratives
from the subconscious that reveal a lot about her. Many times she
discovers something new about herself as she completes a painting.

Mural Arts Program

The Dallas Museum of Art and Oak Cliff's Ice House Cultural Center (Dallas, Texas) are recruiting 15 young artists, ages 14 to 18, to participate in this summer's Mural Arts Program. Like last summer, these teens will receive hands-on lessons from professional artists and college-quality instruction from DMA staff while producing three to four major outdoor murals in the Bishop Arts District. The kids learn to work creatively in teams, they learn about making a living as an artist (the program includes a stipend), and they get a chance to produce a large-format, permanent piece of art - all of which make for an impressive item in their art portfolios. Last year's inaugural cycle of the program produced five excellent murals and generated a lot of good will in the neighborhood. The Dallas Morning New named the program one of the city's Top Ten Art Events of 2004.

The Mural Arts Program will accept applications until May 20. There is no geographic limit on where students reside. Students complete a brief application to be submitted with a short essay, their portfolio and resume, and a letter of recommendation. A small committee will interview students as well. To receive an application or more information, students should send an email request to arteoakcliff@yahoo.com or call (214) 670-7524.
