"A chance for people to come out and see the 'artist environment' in its natural state and to view my new work. Light refreshments will be provided. One new thing that I'm implementing this year is a 'GIVE BACK' program. I will give 10% of any direct sale to the client's choice school or scholarship fund. Face It! Barbara Carrasco
Patricia Correia Gallery
2525 Michigan Ave., E-2
Santa Monica, CA 90404
Dates: February 16 - March 22, 2008
Reception: February 16, 5 - 8PM
Patricia Correia Gallery is proud to present FACE IT!, recent works by Barbara Carrasco in her first solo exhibition at the gallery.
Unlike the large-scale, socially conscious works Barbara Carrasco is recognized for, FACE IT! is a collection of miniature to small-scale silverpoint portraits focusing on various emotional states of being which are solely expressed through the face. Inspired by the religious iconography she was exposed to during her early years in Catholic school, Carrasco infuses her portraits with the vivid imagery of pain and ecstasy conveyed in the expressions of the Saints. The minute proportion of the works aims to draw the viewer for a closer inspection, focusing their gaze on the delicate, yet decisive strokes that compose each portrait and, at the same time, intimately drawing them to the emotion that each face evokes.
